Appetite for Life, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 organization, founded 1996. Our mission is to provide nutritious, high quality, meals at no charge to persons infected with or affected by HIV/ AIDS or other terminal illnesses and who are physician or case manager referred. This is accomplished through one of our three programs: Home Delivered Meals Program (HDMP), Food Pantry Program (FPP), and Ensure Nutritional Supplement Program (ENSP). We do not receive any government funding; our programs are funded by private foundations, individuals, and earned income.
There is a population of people living with HIV/AIDS in Escambia County who do not receive proper nutrition and thus suffer premature death. The reasons for malnutrition range from: the inability to physically prepare meals, lack of reliable transportation to obtain nutritious food, homelessness and low-income.
We serve 32% HIV/AIDS population in Escambia County and their dependents, 56 of which are children. We are the only agency in Escambia County that provides these services to HIV/AIDS clients and their dependents. Most of our delivery clients are shut-ins. This is accomplished by a staff of three and 49 volunteers.
Appetite for Life provides catering from boxed lunches for business meetings to services for private parties, Bar Mitzvahs, birthdays, weddings, etc. and to other agencies & businesses. We began catering in 1999 to supplement our income so we could continue to provide meals to our clients. Since that time we have expanded our catering service. Our chef, Rick Ling, ensures that meals to our clients and to all our catering events are of the best quality and meet the highest standards.
