What is the mission of AFLI?

Our mission is to prepare and deliver meals to men, women, and children living with HIV, AIDS and other documented terminal illnesses and to provide assistance to those persons with respect to nutrition, counseling and other related humanitarian activities.

How many meals does AFLI serve daily?

At this time we provide two meals per day, six days per week to approximately 42 clients.  As of January 2005 we had served over 234,000 meals!

How are clients referred to the program?

Referrals are obtained from the client's caseworker, social worker or their health care provider.

Do clients pay for the meals prepared by AFLI?

There is no cost to our clients or dependent children of our clients.

What is the cost of the meals?

It costs approximately $5.00 per day for 2 meals or $1565.00 per year per client.

Who prepares and delivers the meals?

Appetite for Life relies on approximately 15 volunteers to prepare, package and deliver the meals.

What types of volunteers does AFLI need?

Our kitchen volunteers prepare and package the meals.  Volunteer drivers deliver the meals to our clients.  Our volunteers also assist in the office and with outreach activities such as health fairs and career fairs.

How many hours are required to volunteer?

Kitchen volunteers are asked to work 1 - 2 hours per week between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays.  Drivers are asked to volunteer 1 - 2 hours per week between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. We deliver meals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Where does AFLI get its funding?

Through several local foundations, grants, private donations, fundraisers, and our catering services.  We do not receive any state or federal funds at this time.
